Vote to Cancel Fast Forward Culture

Can we as a collective society take a vote to cancel this fast forward culture we are living in right now?

It’s not even Labor Day and Halloween has already hit the stores. I even saw a Christmas tree and Christmas ribbon just last week.

Why do we have to shop for seasons and holidays 5 months in advance during the 1.5 week window that retail allows and then hoard all the items until the actual season comes around?

Soon we will be throwing pool parties with Christmas trees, turkey and green bean casserole for dinner, and then shooting off fireworks. It’s all very overwhelming!

The Rush to Fast Forward

Every year, it seems like the retail world pushes us further into the future at breakneck speed. Just as we're settling into one season, the stores are already onto the next. The moment the first leaf falls, pumpkins are swapped for peppermint, and cozy autumn decor is replaced with twinkling holiday lights. It’s enough to make anyone’s head spin!

But why do we feel the need to rush through life like this? Each season and holiday has its own unique charm and excitement. Halloween has its spooky magic, Thanksgiving brings warmth and gratitude, and Christmas sparkles with joy and togetherness. When we speed through each one, we miss out on the simple pleasures that make these times special.

Imagine a world where we could fully enjoy each season as it comes. Where we could savor pumpkin-flavored everything in October, enjoy the coziness of fall in November, and embrace the festive spirit of December in, well, December. We wouldn't feel the pressure to stockpile decorations and treats months in advance, and we could truly appreciate the present moment.

Embrace the Present

As a community, we can choose to slow down and reject the fast forward culture. Let’s celebrate each season in its own time and take the pressure off ourselves to constantly be ahead of the curve. By doing this, we can bring more joy, relaxation, and mindfulness into our lives.

So next time you see Christmas lights in October or fireworks in December, take a deep breath and remember: it's okay to live in the now. Enjoy your pumpkin beer, save the Christmas ales for December, and let’s make a splash in our summer pool parties.

Let’s savor the seasons and reclaim the joy of the present moment. Who’s with me?
